Last night I came across this interview with photographer Benjamin Edwards. It is a tear jerker and watching it is worth the 15 minutes of your life. It is a beautiful story of Edwards' ability to take his amazing photo skills and use them to advocate for the most vulnerable of this world. I love that he believes that photos of those hurting and suffering can be used to challenge people like us to take action and change the world.
This is especially close to my heart, because on Friday we will be introduced to a family that has recently relocated here from the Democratic Republic of the Congo through World Relief.
I can only imagine what this family has been through. The atrocities they have had to live though. The hell they've had to escape.
Our daughters are in the same 2nd grade class at school. Their friendship has prompted lots of discussion in our house about what it means to love. What it means to reach out. What it means to live out our faith.
At first we thought this would be a great way to help out a family in need, but lately I've been really challenged not go in with an attitude of us being their American tour guides. Now, I'm praying that this would simply be the beginning of a very important friendship.
